On May 26, 2013, the Vegreville Drag Racing Association (VDRA) held their first drag race of the season. The club’s mission is to promote the sport of drag racing in a safe and legal environment as well as to allow anyone the opportunity to experience it for the first time (street legal vehicles are allowed). They also promote fellowship, teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie within the club. The races are held at the Vegreville Regional Airport & is mainly ‘bracket racing’.
I have been fortunate to volunteer my services to the club by providing photographs on race day. I also get the opportunity to get up & close to these racing machines while taking in the the smell of burnt rubber & racing fuel. My brother and dad have been members of the VDRA since its introduction in 2009, & my brother has been an active racer (his wife has also raced several times!).
At the last race, there was only one minor incident with a motorcycle which was quickly resolved by the club’s dedicated volunteers. The VDRA is a growing club & is always looking for new racers and volunteers. Please visit the VDRA website for more information on this thrilling sport.
